Varicose vein rupture
complications of varicose veins
Varicose vein rupture can occur when the vein is very superficial and dilated, forming what is called a venous ampulla. It sometimes takes only a small impact to make it bleed. Although the bleeding might be disturbing, it is never serious and can be quickly and easily stopped by applying light pressure on the varicose vein with a gauze pad or some clean cloth, and by lying down and putting the leg up.
